How much does a website cost? If you're starting a business or your current website has had its day, it's usually one of the first questions you ask. For a professionally designed website in Grimsby, you can expect to pay between £750 and £4,500 with me, depending on how many pages you need and what the site has to do. Here's what goes into that price, what each level gets you and how to work out what's right for your business.
The price depends on what your website needs to do.
The honest answer to how much does a website cost is that it depends on four things. The first is size - a single landing page takes far less time to plan, design and build than a ten-page site with a blog and case studies. The second is features. An enquiry form is simple, but online booking, a shop, payments and shipping all add work.
The third is content. If your words and photos are ready to go, the project moves quickly. If you need help working out what to say, that takes time too. The last is how it's built. A website designed around your business costs more than a template with your logo dropped in, but it's the difference between a site that looks like everyone else's and one that actually wins you work.
How much does a website cost at each level?
A Landing Page costs £750. It's one long-scroll page with an enquiry form and analytics - ideal if you're just starting out or promoting a single service. A Starter Website is £1,750 and gives you up to five pages, an enquiry form and two rounds of revisions, which covers most small local businesses.
A Business Website is £2,950 and gives you up to ten pages, a blog, case studies, help with your copy and three rounds of revisions. If you want to sell online, an E-commerce Website starts from £4,500, with up to 50 products loaded, plus payments and shipping set up. If your current WordPress website just needs bringing up to date, a website redesign starts from £950.
Don't forget the running costs.
A website doesn't stop costing money once it's live, and it's worth knowing that upfront. Hosting with me is £25 a month and includes an SSL certificate, daily backups and your Elementor Pro licence. My website care plans start at £45 a month and add plugin and theme updates, uptime monitoring and small edits.
The Business Website and above include your first three months of Care free. Domain renewal is £20 a year if I manage it for you (.co.uk addresses are registered through Nominet), and business email set-up is a one-off £75. There are no surprise invoices - everything is agreed before we start. So when you're asking how much does a website cost, count the monthly costs as well as the build.
A cheap website can end up costing you more.
You can build a website yourself for a few pounds a month, and for some people that's fine to start with. The catch is the time it takes and what you don't get. Most DIY sites end up looking like the template they came from, load slowly, struggle on phones and never get found on Google, because nobody planned the pages around what customers actually search for.
Most of the businesses I work with have already tried that route. They end up paying twice - once in time and money for the DIY version, then again to replace it when it holds them back. Your website is often the first place people check before they call you, so it's worth getting right the first time.
Here's what that looks like for a local business.
For Chloe Conway Photography, the job was a website that put the photography first and made it easy for people to get in touch and book. You can see more projects in my work, or read about how I approach web design in Grimsby and web design in Cleethorpes.
How to budget for your website.
If you're just starting out, a Landing Page or Starter Website gets you online properly without overspending, and you can grow it later. If you already have customers and want the website to bring in enquiries, the Business Website is usually the better investment. Before you get quotes, ask exactly what's included, how many revisions you get, what the monthly costs will be and whether you'll own the website outright.
If you need a new logo or brand as well, my guide on how much a logo costs in Grimsby covers that side, and my page on branding in Grimsby explains how I approach it. All my prices are laid out in my free pricing guide, so you can see exactly what you'd pay before we speak.
