Before and after the rebrand
The Laceby Teapot has served breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea in Laceby, just outside Grimsby, since 2012. The welcome was already there. The brand around it was trying to do three jobs at once.
The old mark asked you to read a teapot, a set of scrollwork flourishes and the name split across two lines - one of which had so little contrast against the green that it practically disappeared. We rebuilt it as a single shape, then put that shape on everything a customer actually touches.
The teapot and the name are now the same object. The lettering sits inside the silhouette rather than underneath it, hand-drawn in a monoline script that stays slightly imperfect on purpose. It should feel like somewhere you would happily sit for an hour, not a stock icon with a serif parked under it.
Two colours carry the whole thing - a deep garden green and a soft clay pink, with cream for breathing room. The mark holds together in one colour on a stamp and at full size on a wall, which is what lets the same identity run from a loyalty card to an apron without being redrawn.
The roll-out covers the things people pick up: menus for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and specials, a loyalty card, gift cards, takeaway cups, napkins, paper bags, stickers and the team's aprons.
It reaches past the room as well. The Facebook page carries the same mark, so the first thing someone sees when they look the tea room up matches the sign they will find on the door.
